National Citizen Party charts bold new course in Chittagong Hill Tracts

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has signalled a new direction in the Chittagong Hill Tracts with Hasnat Abdullah, its southern region chief coordinator, stepping into the spotlight. Abdullah, previously unheralded in local politics, addressed a meeting of party leaders from Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban, outlining the NCP's focus on communal harmony.

Abdullah, the NCP's chief coordinator for the southern region, emphasised the party's commitment to fostering communal harmony in the Hill Tracts. He warned against person-centred politics, stating that it leads to failure, and instead called for unity among honest, patriotic individuals. The meeting was chaired by Bipin Jyoti Chakma, the NCP's Rangamati chief coordinator, and attended by other party leaders.

Abdullah expressed the NCP's desire to receive the July Charter directly from the chief adviser, bypassing intermediaries. He also asserted that the future leadership of Bangladesh will emerge from the NCP, suggesting the party's ambition. Looking back, Abdullah commented that those who signed the July Charter now regret their actions, but the NCP remains steadfast in its path.

Hasnat Abdullah's address marks a significant moment for the NCP in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. With a focus on communal harmony and unity, the party aims to strengthen its position and prepare for the future. Abdullah's warning against person-centred politics and his call for sincerity in organisational duties signal a shift towards principle-based leadership.
