Negeri Sembilan crisis deepens as Umno lawmakers withdraw support from government

Political tensions have risen in Negeri Sembilan after all 14 Umno and Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrew support from the state government. The move has sparked calls for calm from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who urged all sides to prioritise stability over conflict. The crisis began when the 14 assemblymen declared they no longer had confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. Despite their withdrawal, the Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir issued a decree for Aminuddin to remain in office.

Anwar responded by emphasising the need to follow the state constitution. He also warned against letting political disputes overshadow efforts to revive the national economy. His statement aimed to prevent further escalation while respecting the ruler’s decision.

The prime minister’s call for restraint comes as Negeri Sembilan faces political uncertainty. With the ruler’s decree in place, Aminuddin retains his position for now. The focus, according to Anwar, must stay on economic recovery rather than prolonged disputes.
