Neuwied opens absentee voting office ahead of March 22 election
Neuwied’s absentee voting office will open on Ash Wednesday, February 18, ahead of the state parliamentary election on March 22. Voters can request, collect, or submit ballots in person, by post, or online using a personalized QR code.
The office, located in the Amalie-Raiffeisen-Saal at the adult education centre, will operate with extended hours to accommodate residents. Staff have also prepared secure drop boxes and digital options to simplify the process.
Voter notification letters, including absentee ballot application forms, will be sent out in the final week of February. Each notification features a preprinted QR code, allowing voters to request materials online quickly.
The absentee voting office at Heddesdorfer Straße 33 is fully accessible. Opening hours are 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday and Tuesday, 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday and Friday, and 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM on Thursday. On the Friday before the election, it will close at 3:00 PM. Voters can collect ballots in person by showing ID, either to take home or to cast immediately at the office. Requests can also be submitted by email or traditional mail. Completed ballots must reach the city administration by 6:00 PM on election day to be counted. Twelve staff members in Neuwied’s administration are managing the election, with nine working directly in the absentee voting office. Designated drop boxes at administrative sites provide an additional way to meet the deadline.
The absentee voting process offers multiple options for convenience and accessibility. Voters can choose between online requests, in-person collection, or postal submission. All ballots must arrive by the 6:00 PM cutoff on March 22 to ensure they are included in the final count.
