Olaf Demuth Takes Helm of Germany's Construction Industry Federation

Olaf Demuth has been named the new president of the German Construction Industry Federation (HDB). The 63-year-old civil engineer from Hamburg was unanimously elected by the general assembly. He takes over from Peter Hübner, who stepped down early to ensure a smooth leadership transition. Demuth brings decades of experience to the role. After studying civil engineering at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, he joined STRABAG in 1988. Since 2017, he has led the Building division of Zech Group SE, overseeing construction, civil engineering, and related services.

His first official act as president will be attending the 'Day of the Construction Industry' event. There, he will meet with ministers and speak to industry associations and companies. An exclusive interview with *Allgemeine Bauzeitung* will later outline his plans for the sector. Demuth has clear goals for his presidency. He aims to bring together the fragmented construction industry and bolster the position of mid-sized firms. While excited about the opportunity, he acknowledges the significant challenges ahead.

As head of HDB, Demuth will now represent one of Germany’s most important economic sectors. His leadership comes at a time when the industry faces both opportunities and pressures. The federation expects his experience to guide key decisions in the coming years.
