Clearance of protest camp costs more than 220,000 euros - Police clear illegal protest camp at Langen Forest Lake after 16-month occupation

Authorities cleared an illegal protest camp at Langen Forest Lake in November 2025. The operation followed a long occupation by activists opposing tree felling in the area. The eviction involved a large police presence and significant costs. Protesters had occupied the site since summer 2024 to block plans for gravel extraction. They claimed the woodland was being destroyed for commercial gain. Between summer 2024 and 19 November 2025, officials recorded 52 criminal and administrative offences tied to the protests.

On 12 November 2025, several hundred officers were deployed daily to carry out the eviction. Hessian Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) later confirmed the total cost of the clearance exceeded €220,000. The operation removed the camp and ended the occupation. The financial burden on public funds reached over €220,000. Authorities documented dozens of offences during the 16-month protest period.
