Russia Offers Free Spa and Sanatorium Stays for High-Risk Workers

Russian workers in certain industries may soon receive fully funded sanatorium and spa treatment as part of workplace health measures. The support varies depending on job risks, medical needs, and employment terms. Some employees, however, will still need to cover their own costs if they arrange visits independently. Employees can access health resort benefits under three main conditions: medical recommendations, terms in their employment contracts, or privileged status. For those covered by mandatory social insurance, the Social Fund pays for travel vouchers when treatment is medically necessary. Employers often help with the paperwork and logistics in these cases.

In high-risk or hazardous jobs, companies may foot the entire bill for sanatorium stays as part of occupational safety policies. Other common setups involve shared costs between employers and staff, with financial details spelled out in labour agreements. Sergei Krivonosov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism, has highlighted these provisions as part of broader worker welfare efforts.

Special support also extends to participants in the special military operation and their families. They receive dedicated assistance for accessing sanatorium and spa treatment under separate government measures. The system ensures that workers with medical needs or high-risk roles get financial backing for health resort visits. Those arranging trips on their own, however, remain responsible for all expenses. The rules aim to balance employer obligations, state support, and individual choice in accessing treatment.
