Russia probes unsafe housing as families remain in crumbling buildings
The Primorsky Territory Prosecutor's Office has launched an inspection following media reports about the deplorable condition of a residential building on Miroshnichenko Street in Partizansk, the supervisory agency's press service announced.
"It has been established that in 2023, local authorities declared the apartment building unsafe and slated for demolition. Residents are to be relocated by December 31, 2028," the statement reads.
The prosecutor's office will assess the legality of the municipal administration's actions, both in setting the relocation deadline and in organizing the process of resettling residents.
Additionally, in April 2026, a court ruled in favor of the city prosecutor's lawsuit, ordering the municipal utility Suchavsky Vodokanal to replace the main stormwater drain and repair leaking sewage networks. Compliance with the ruling remains under prosecutorial oversight.
The actual restoration of residents' housing rights is also being monitored by the agency.
Earlier, the Primorsky Prosecutor's Office intervened in the case of a large family in Ussuriysk forced to live in a dilapidated building with a collapsed ceiling. The inspection was prompted by a social media post, which revealed that city authorities had failed to take urgent measures to relocate the residents despite the clear danger to their safety.
