Suspect and Accomplices Used Forged Power of Attorney
Russian man jailed for smuggling 200 kg of pregabalin in cross-border scheme
A court in St. Petersburg has remanded Vyacheslav Sechko into custody on charges of smuggling a large shipment of potent drugs, specifically nearly 200 kilograms of pregabalin, according to the city's unified court press service.
Investigators allege that the man did not act alone but worked with his brother and other members of the group. In March, they received eight boxes of the drug—weighing a total of around 201 kg—from a courier. To collect the shipment, they used a forged power of attorney under someone else's name.
The supply chain spanned multiple countries. The cargo was shipped from China, then passed through Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan before being delivered to Russia by truck. Authorities believe the group intended to hide the drugs in a rented apartment.
Sechko was detained on April 23. During the hearing, he pleaded against pretrial detention, but his request was denied. He will remain in custody at least until June 22. Criminal charges have been filed under articles covering smuggling and the illegal trafficking of potent substances as part of an organized group.
