Salzgitter: Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) Makes City-Wide Debut in Local Elections
Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance debuts in Salzgitter's local elections with full candidate slate
The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is running in Salzgitter's local elections for the first time—and doing so with full coverage: the party has fielded its own candidates in every electoral district across the city, as well as in several local advisory councils. With this move, the BSW aims to send a clear signal for a fresh political start at the municipal level.
On Saturday morning, candidates were officially nominated during a party assembly, the BSW announced in a press statement. All electoral districts were successfully filled, and the nominees accepted their candidacies, entering the upcoming campaign with unity and determination, according to the release.
The Candidates
The following candidates will represent the BSW in each district: - District A: Hakan Ay - District B: Abdellatif Fakhro and Mathias Schmatolla - District C: Selahattin Ince and Patrick Stöhr - District D: Salik Alanc - District E: Michael Weinreich - District F: Pierre Küch
Wolfgang Schwieger, a board member of the BSW's Southeast Lower Saxony branch, highlighted the team's broad composition: "We are particularly pleased to have so many young candidates, complemented by experienced former and current council members—including Selahattin Ince."
"Practical Solutions for Everyday Challenges"
"In Salzgitter, we champion politics that stay close to the people. Our focus is on developing and implementing concrete solutions to the daily issues facing our community," the candidates stated. The BSW's local platform prioritizes affordable housing, robust municipal infrastructure, strong education and childcare services, and greater social equity. Key issues also include bolstering the local economy, securing jobs, and ensuring reliable public services.
With a full slate of candidates and a diverse team, the BSW says it is well prepared for Salzgitter's upcoming local elections. Over the coming weeks, the nominees plan to engage with voters through regular campaign stands across the city. Dates and event details will be announced in advance via the party's usual channels.
