Saxony-Anhalt secures €1.1M to restore historic cultural landmarks by 2026
Six cultural projects in Saxony-Anhalt will receive over €1.1 million in funding by 2026. The money comes from the German government’s INK program, which supports nationally significant heritage sites. Two key locations in Halle (Saale) and Memleben are set to benefit from the latest round of grants. The 'Investments in Nationally Significant Cultural Institutions in Germany' (INK) program has allocated around €27 million for renovations at more than 20 sites nationwide. Among the funded institutions are Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig and the Benedictine Abbey of Ettal.
In Saxony-Anhalt, two major projects will share €379,000. The Franckesche Stiftungen in Halle (Saale) will use €202,000 to restore its historic façade. Meanwhile, the Kloster und Kaiserpfalz Memleben Foundation will receive €177,000 for accessibility upgrades and structural repairs to its event areas. The funding requires co-financing from both the applicants and the state of Saxony-Anhalt. This ensures that local authorities and institutions contribute alongside the federal government’s investment.
The grants will help preserve and modernise key cultural landmarks in the region. Work at the Franckesche Stiftungen and Memleben’s imperial palace will begin once the funds are released. The total INK budget for 2026 now exceeds €1.1 million for Saxony-Anhalt alone.
