Schöppenstedt: Federal Government Allocates €900,000 for Sports Facility Renovation
Schöppenstedt's sports complex secures €900,000 for major renovation
The German federal government has approved €900,000 in funding for the renovation of Schöppenstedt's sports complex, as announced by Wolfenbüttel-Salzgitter-Harz district MPs Dunja Kreiser (SPD) and Prof. Dr. Reza Asghari (CDU).
The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag granted the funds under the "Renovation of Municipal Sports Facilities" program. The total cost of the project is estimated at around €2 million.
High Demand for Funding
The grant is part of the first tranche of the so-called "Sports Billion" initiative, aimed at modernizing municipal sports facilities nationwide. According to federal authorities, the program has been overwhelmingly oversubscribed, with 3,684 expressions of interest totaling over €7.5 billion in requested funding. The funds will help upgrade the Schöppenstedt facility, ensuring its long-term viability for club and grassroots sports.
A Clear Commitment
" I am delighted that the Bundestag's Budget Committee has approved €900,000 for the renovation of Schöppenstedt's sports complex," said MP Prof. Dr. Reza Asghari (CDU). "This is the full amount requested. We are ensuring that essential, aging sports facilities across Germany can finally be modernized. With the Sports Billion, the federal government is sending a clear message of support to our municipalities, clubs, and grassroots sports. Nothing strengthens cohesion and team spirit more than sports," the lawmaker added.
A Strong Signal for the Region
" This decision is a powerful signal for the region and for everyone involved in daily club sports," emphasized Dunja Kreiser. "Modern sports facilities are the foundation of a vibrant club life—and thus for cohesion, health, and integration in our society. Club sports are the backbone of our social fabric. Friendships are formed here, integration is lived here, and community is experienced here. That's why every euro invested in our sports facilities is also an investment in social cohesion," Kreiser concluded.
