Silke Boß returns as president of Halle-Saalkreis Evangelical synod

Last Saturday, the new synod of the Evangelical Church District of Halle-Saalkreis was constituted at St. Bartholomew's Church in Halle. Following an opening service with Holy Communion, Superintendent Dr. Ute Niethammer chaired the session until the election of the presiding board.

Silke Boß was elected as the new president, with Nicol Speer and Andreas Quellmalz chosen as her deputies. All three volunteer board members hail from rural areas within the church district.

Silke Boß brings extensive experience back to the district leadership. The 70-year-old previously served as president from 2003 to 2014 and was also active in the regional synod. After her election, she stated: "Such a clear vote is first and foremost an expression of trust, which I greatly appreciate. My role is to ensure that the interests of all congregations in the district are represented in our leadership bodies. For me, striking a balance between urban and rural communities is particularly important—fostering mutual understanding and a willingness to collaborate."

Dr. Ute Niethammer, for whom this was the first synod in her role as superintendent of the church district, also offered a positive assessment: "We have a synod that is highly committed to working together and places a great deal of trust in one another. The clear majorities in its decisions demonstrate a shared desire to move forward on a common path rather than pursuing individual interests. I believe this is an excellent foundation on which to build."
