SPD triumphs in Dormagen’s local elections, mayoral race heads to runoff
Local elections in Dormagen have concluded with the SPD leading the city council and the Union for Dormagen emerging as the strongest force in the Integration Council. The election committee confirmed the election results on September 17, 2025, with a voter turnout of 59.06 percent.
In the city council election, the SPD secured a clear victory with 33.48 percent of the votes. The AfD followed with 13.68 percent, while the Greens received 9.75 percent. The mayoral election saw Erik Lierenfeld (SPD) lead with 48.60 percent, setting up a runoff with Anissa Saysay (CDU), who received 26.75 percent.
The Integration Council election saw the Union for Dormagen win with 28.17 percent, securing three seats. Independent candidate Berthold Gericke received 23.74 percent, also securing a seat. The List of Diversity received two mandates with 16.04 percent, while the remaining seats went to other parties.
The local elections in Dormagen have resulted in a runoff for the mayoral position between Erik Lierenfeld (SPD) and Anissa Saysay (CDU). The SPD leads the city council, while the Union for Dormagen is the strongest force in the Integration Council. The next mayor will be decided in the runoff election on September 28.
