Spontaneous anti-fascist protest disrupts AfD stand in Kirchhain

A spontaneous protest took place in Kirchhain on 7 February 2023. Around 25 to 30 people gathered near an AfD information stand on Bahnhofstraße to oppose the party’s presence. The demonstrators displayed banners labelling their action as an 'anti-fascist protest'. Local AfD representatives had set up the information booth earlier that day. The assembly authority could not identify an organiser among the protesters, as the gathering was unregistered.

Authorities issued a final order for the group to disperse. The protesters at first refused to comply and ignored instructions to relocate. Police then removed two individuals from the scene.

After the arrests, the remaining demonstrators followed the order and left the area. No further incidents occurred at the AfD stand following the protest’s end. The protesters now face administrative proceedings for breaching the Hessian Assembly Freedom Act. Media requests for further details can be sent to the press office at Mittelhessen Police Headquarters.
