Stalled CHPS facility in Atwima Asamang leaves communities without healthcare
The completion of the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facility in Atwima Asamang, Ashanti Region, has been delayed due to funding shortages and bureaucratic hurdles. The project was started under the John Mahama administration but was abandoned for eight years under the NPP government. Now, the NDC government is working to complete it.
The CHPS compound, which is 80% complete, has been left unfinished since 2014. Remaining work includes installing electricity, fitting doors and windows, constructing a septic tank, completing washrooms, and arranging staff logistics. Residents blame the absence of the healthcare facility for many fatalities, as they have to travel long distances for medical care. The compound is set to serve Atwima Asamang and about 10 other communities in the Abesua electoral area.
Residents have urged the government to finish and inaugurate the CHPS compound to improve healthcare delivery in the area. The project's delay has been attributed to funding shortages, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and logistical challenges.
The CHPS compound in Atwima Asamang is nearing completion after years of delay. With the remaining work underway, the facility is expected to significantly improve healthcare access for the residents of Atwima Asamang and surrounding communities.
