T-Systems and Google Cloud revamp sovereign cloud partnership amid market shifts

The partnership between T-Systems and Google Cloud on sovereign cloud solutions is undergoing a major overhaul. Telekom has confirmed that its existing contracts and customer services will continue without disruption. The changes come as both companies adjust to shifting market demands. In 2021, Telekom and Google launched a joint offering focused on an air-gapped system designed for high-security needs. Despite the ambition, insiders now reveal that no customers ever purchased the solution.

With the partnership being restructured, Google is reportedly exploring new alliances for its sovereign cloud services in Germany. One potential candidate is a French company, though no official agreement has been announced.

Telekom, meanwhile, is adapting its services to better match current customer requirements. The company has reassured clients that all existing contracts and solutions will remain fully supported throughout the transition. The overhaul marks a shift in strategy for both Telekom and Google Cloud. While the air-gapped system failed to attract buyers, the search for new partners suggests ongoing efforts to meet Germany’s cloud security needs. Existing customers will see no immediate changes to their services.
