Turkish Man Jailed for Six Years After Fatal Laundry Room Dispute
A 30-year-old Turkish man has been jailed for six years after a violent assault left his 78-year-old neighbour dead. The attack took place in Stuttgart following a dispute over a shared laundry room. The court ruled that the defendant acted out of anger, not self-defence.
The two men lived in the same apartment building and had clashed over the unclean state of the laundry room. An argument escalated, and the defendant punched the pensioner in the face. The elderly man fell, hit his head, and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury.
He died nearly two weeks later. The defendant claimed he acted in self-defence after the pensioner racially insulted him and struck him with a broom. However, the Stuttgart Regional Court dismissed this account, finding that the attack was driven by anger. At the time of the assault, the 30-year-old was on probation with a prior criminal record. He had eleven convictions, including four for assault. Despite skipping court-ordered probation meetings and anger management programmes, he remained free until the trial.
The court handed down a six-year prison sentence for the fatal assault. The ruling confirmed that the defendant’s actions were not justified as self-defence. The victim’s death followed a single punch that led to a catastrophic head injury.
