UAE launches GCC Traffic Week to boost regional road safety efforts

The UAE has launched its annual GCC Traffic Week initiative to improve road safety across the region. Organised by the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Traffic Council, and Abu Dhabi Mobility, the event brings together officials and the public for a series of awareness activities. Events will run until May 7 in all seven emirates, including major malls and public spaces. The initiative kicked off at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi, where senior officials gathered for the opening ceremony. A technology exhibition displayed the latest innovations from police forces across the emirates.

Lt. Colonel Rashid Humaid bin Hindi highlighted the campaign’s goal of strengthening regional cooperation to make roads safer. Alongside the week’s activities, a three-month public awareness drive called *Cross Safely* was introduced. This campaign urges all road users to follow traffic rules more closely. The UAE has set an ambitious target: to become one of the top three countries in the world for reducing traffic fatalities by 2031. Authorities are using this week to promote safer driving habits and showcase new tools for accident prevention.

GCC Traffic Week will continue with events across the UAE until May 7. The campaign combines public engagement, technology displays, and long-term awareness efforts. Officials hope these measures will help cut road deaths and improve overall traffic safety in the coming years.
