Upper Austria’s election race tightens as FPÖ leads but ÖVP fights back
In Upper Austria, a new political landscape is emerging ahead of the next state election. Governor Thomas Stelzer has been raising concerns about economic issues, with a recent survey showing 60% satisfaction with state politics. However, the economic mood has turned negative, with worries about corporate relocations, bankruptcies, and layoffs.
Current polls indicate the FPÖ is leading with around 31% of the vote, followed by the ÖVP at 22%, a significant drop from their 37.6% in the 2021 election. The SPÖ, under newly elected leader Martin Winkler, trails behind with 17-19 percent. If elections were held today, the ÖVP, led by Governor Stelzer, would secure between 32 and 34 percent.
The SPÖ criticizes the ÖVP-FPÖ budget, labeling it a 'standstill budget' lacking economic wisdom. Winkler has offered his economic expertise for cooperation. The Greens poll at 14-16 percent, and the Neos at 4-6 percent. The FPÖ, led by Deputy Governor Manfred Haimbuchner, polls at 26 to 28 percent.
The upcoming state election in Upper Austria promises a close race, with the FPÖ currently leading but the ÖVP still a strong contender. The SPÖ, under Winkler's leadership, aims to challenge the status quo with its economic proposals. The final outcome remains uncertain, with various parties vying for voters' support.
