Vietnam and Laos Strengthen Military Ties in Historic Vientiane Talks
High-level military talks between Vietnam and Laos took place in Vientiane on Monday, November 10, 2025. Both sides praised their close collaboration and highlighted achievements in coordination, particularly following recent visits and engagements.
The discussions were led by Lieut. Gen. Nguyễn Văn Đức from the Viet Nam People's Army (VPA) and Maj. Gen Keosouvanh Phangphilavong from the Lao People's Army. The Lao delegation, headed by Maj. Gen Keosouvanh, held talks with the Vietnamese counterpart in Vientiane.
Both sides committed to continued sharing of experience in various fields, including information and education, culture, and management of publishing and film distribution. They also agreed to continue promoting political education work to strengthen the relationship between their political education departments and between Vietnam and Laos. The successful implementation of bilateral defence agreements and protocols for 2025-2029 was noted, focusing on external information, friendship exchanges, and major defence activities. The delegations directed extensive communications on cooperation activities between the two militaries, including the Viet Nam International Defence Expo and the second Viet Nam-Laos Border Defence Friendship Exchange. The Viet Nam side expressed gratitude to the Lao Ministry of Defence for sending officers to Vietnam for significant anniversary celebrations, which successfully raised public awareness of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
