Routine Check Sparks Violent Confrontation
Violent clash erupts during Solingen police check, leaving officers injured
At around 5:30 p.m., patrol officers on Cologne Street noticed a 25-year-old man who is subject to a ban from Solingen's city center. When officers attempted to stop him near Graf-Wilhelm-Platz, his 29-year-old brother deliberately positioned himself between them, blocking the check. Tensions escalated rapidly within minutes.
Insults, Kicks, and Spitting Attacks
When the brothers refused to cooperate, reinforcements were called in. Though briefly separated, the situation appeared to calm—only to erupt again: The older brother hurled abuse at the officers. As they moved to restrain him, he kicked and spat at the police.
Despite fierce resistance, both men were eventually taken to the police station, where they continued to struggle.
Two Officers Injured—Judge Takes Firm Action
Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the operation.
The presiding judge ordered the 25-year-old to be held in extended custody. Both men now face investigations for assaulting law enforcement officers and resisting arrest.
