Violent robbery near Görlitzer Bahnhof leaves man injured in Berlin
A 28-year-old man was robbed and assaulted in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district early on Monday. The attack took place near Görlitzer Bahnhof U-Bahn station around 7:55 a.m. Two suspects, aged 23 and 24, were later arrested but released after processing. The victim was walking with his 24-year-old girlfriend when the two suspects approached. They asked if he wanted to buy marijuana. When he refused, they tried to snatch his wristwatch and headphones.
The victim fought back, prompting the suspects to spray pepper spray in his face. They then struck him repeatedly in the head and threw a beer bottle at him. The damaged watch and headphones were left behind as the attackers fled toward Görlitzer Bahnhof. Police from Directorate 5 (City) quickly located and apprehended the suspects on Reichenberger Straße. The victim suffered eye and respiratory irritation, head contusions, and was taken to hospital for outpatient treatment. The investigation remains ongoing under a specialised precinct unit.
The two suspects were taken into custody for identification before being released. The victim received medical care for his injuries, while police continue to examine the circumstances of the attack. The damaged items were recovered at the scene.
