Wales Launches £2,000 Grants to Fuel Young Entrepreneurs' Dreams

A new discretionary grant has launched in Wales to help aspiring entrepreneurs overcome financial hurdles. The scheme will provide up to £2,000 to 400 individuals, with a focus on supporting 100 young business owners. The funding aligns with the Welsh Government’s Young Person’s Guarantee, which promotes self-employment opportunities. The initiative builds on the Start-up Barriers Grant, which assisted 382 people in 2020/21. Beyond financial aid, the programme offers one-to-one advice, webinars, and tailored support to help new businesses thrive.

One beneficiary, Yvette Clark, used the grant to open *Fussy*, a vintage shop in Barry. After losing her job during the pandemic, she turned to ReAct training and Business Wales for guidance. Their support helped her refine her business plan and launch her lifelong dream of selling vintage clothing full-time. Economy Minister Vaughan Gething has set clear targets for the fund. It aims to reduce inequality and poverty by removing common barriers to self-employment. The wider package of support ensures recipients get both money and practical help to start their ventures.

The grant will directly assist 400 individuals, with a specific focus on young entrepreneurs. By combining financial aid with mentorship, the Welsh Government hopes to create lasting opportunities. The scheme reflects ongoing efforts to boost self-employment and economic resilience across the region.
