Wiesbaden Hosts Free Talk on Europe's Future Amid War and Enlargement
A free public lecture on Europe’s future will take place in Wiesbaden next April. Titled The Future of the EU: Russia’s War, Trump’s America, and Europe’s Eastern Enlargement, the event invites attendees to explore pressing challenges facing the continent. Political scientist and historian Manfred Sapper will lead the discussion at the City Museum on Marktplatz. The lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at 6:00 PM. It forms part of the exhibition Tell Me About Europe! and will examine the EU’s role amid ongoing conflicts, shifting global power, and its own expansion. A key focus will be the 2004 Eastern enlargement and its relevance today, particularly for countries like Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans seeking membership.
Rather than a traditional talk, the evening will take the form of a dialogue. Moderated by Sven Ringsdorf, the session aims to encourage questions, doubts, and fresh viewpoints. Attendees can expect an open discussion on whether the EU can still guarantee stability, security, and a viable future for aspiring member states. The event will be held at the City Museum on Marktplatz, located at Dern’sche Gelände, 65183 Wiesbaden. No ticket is required, as admission is free for all.
The lecture offers a chance to reflect on Europe’s current direction and its ability to meet new challenges. By addressing war, geopolitical shifts, and enlargement, the discussion will help attendees grasp the forces shaping the continent’s future. Organisers hope the event will spark meaningful conversations about the EU’s path forward.
