Yakutia's Communist Party elects new leader after Gubarev's death
YAKUTIA.INFO – At the third plenary session of the Yakutia Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), held today, January 30, Vyacheslav Kulichkin was elected the new first secretary of the party's regional branch. The nomination was supported by 38 members of the regional committee, with no votes against or abstentions, according to the committee's press secretary, Galina Mokhnachevskaya.
The position had been left vacant following the death of the former first secretary of the Yakutia CPRF Regional Committee, Viktor Gubarev, who had led the local Communists. The party's Central Committee personnel department recommended Kulichkin, previously the second secretary of the regional committee, as his successor.
The plenary session also approved new members of the regional committee's secretariat: Innokenty Vasilyev was appointed second secretary, Dmitry Sharipov will oversee youth engagement and election efforts, Ayaan Vasilyev will serve as secretary for public relations, and Igor Bugaenko will handle mobilization and special operations.
Vyacheslav Semyonovich Kulichkin also announced that Innokenty Romanov, elected secretary for ideology at the Yakutia Communist Forum in February 2025, will be responsible for the party's deputy network. Plenary participants paid tribute to Viktor Gubarev, acknowledging his significant contributions to the development of the Communist Party.
BACKGROUND:
Vyacheslav Kulichkin was born on November 4, 1970, in the village of Borogontsy, Ust-Aldan District, Yakut ASSR. He joined the CPRF in 2001 and holds two higher education degrees.
In 1985, he was a student at Vocational School No. 14 in Yakutsk. He served in the Soviet Army and began his career as a worker at the I.Ya. Stroda state farm in Amga District. After graduating from the pedagogical faculty of Yakutsk State University, he worked as a freestyle wrestling coach at a youth sports school in Amga. In 2001, he became a housing manager for the Oktyabrsky District administration in Yakutsk.
From 2002 to 2004, he studied at the CPRF Central Committee's Higher Party School in Moscow. From 2004 to 2014, he served as secretary for organizational and party work in the Yakutia CPRF Regional Committee. In 2012, he worked as an aide to Leonid Kalashnikov, a Communist deputy in the State Duma.
From 2014 until January 30, 2026, he was a candidate member of the CPRF Central Committee and the second secretary of the Yakutia CPRF Regional Committee.
