Astana gears up for high-stakes environmental summits in April 2026

Traffic Restrictions Announced in Astana Ahead of High-Profile Events, reports Liter.kz.

Authorities have announced temporary traffic restrictions on select streets in Astana from April 20–24, 2026, due to a series of international political events. The State Protection Service confirmed that the measures are necessary to ensure security during the gatherings and urged residents and visitors to cooperate.

Earlier reports indicated that Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh will make a state visit to Kazakhstan from April 20–23 at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

From April 22–24, the capital will host the Regional Environmental Summit (#RES2026).

On April 22, Astana will also host a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), chaired by Tokayev. The summit will bring together Central Asian leaders to discuss environmental security and sustainable development in the region.
