German Rail Aims to Improve Cleanliness and Safety at Stations—Berlin Introduces Alcohol Bans
Berlin bans alcohol at Zoo Station and Ostbahnhof starting 1 May
Starting May 1, Berlin Zoo Station and Ostbahnhof will enforce an indefinite ban on alcohol. The state-owned rail operator announced the measure is designed to enhance cleanliness and boost passengers' sense of security. Violations may result in removal from the premises or permanent bans.
According to an internal memo for staff, Deutsche Bahn reserves the right to file criminal complaints in cases of repeated offenses. The ban prohibits both the consumption of alcohol and carrying open containers. It remains unclear whether the restriction will be extended to other major stations in the capital.
The move is part of a broader initiative by Deutsche Bahn to improve hygiene and safety across stations and trains.
