Berlin bus driver threatened after confronting vandal near Memhardstraße
A bus driver in Berlin’s Mitte district faced verbal abuse and threats on Wednesday evening. The incident began when an unidentified man struck the windows of a BVG bus near Memhardstraße. Police are now investigating the attack as a case of assault and threats.
The confrontation started around the intersection of Memhardstraße, Alexanderstraße, and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. The 43-year-old driver stepped out to confront the man, telling him to stop his behaviour. In response, the suspect allegedly hurled insults and threatened to kill the driver.
The driver then used pepper spray in self-defence, causing the attacker to flee toward Hackescher Markt S-Bahn station. Authorities later seized the pepper spray as evidence. The case has since been handed over to a specialised unit within Police Directorate 5, which oversees the City precinct.
Investigators are working to identify the suspect, who remains at large. The bus driver was not physically injured, but the incident has raised concerns about safety for public transport workers. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
