Berlin police arrest reckless driver after high-speed chase through Oberschöneweide
A 27-year-old man was arrested in Berlin’s Oberschöneweide district after leading police on a high-speed chase. The incident began when officers spotted him racing illegally along Minna-Todenhagen-Straße in the early hours of the morning. He now faces further investigation for multiple traffic offences. The chase started around 1:15 a.m. when the suspect was seen driving at dangerous speeds. Instead of stopping for police signals, he accelerated away, leading officers along Köpenicker Landstraße, Rodelbergweg, and Neue Krugallee. The pursuit ended when he was finally apprehended on Baumschulenstraße.
After his arrest, the man admitted to not holding a valid German driver’s licence. He also confessed to consuming drugs before getting behind the wheel. Officers took him into custody for a blood test to confirm his statements.
Following the initial procedures, he was released from custody. However, the case has now been handed over to the specialised traffic offences unit of Police Directorate 3 (East) for deeper examination. The investigation will determine the full extent of the charges against the driver. Authorities are reviewing evidence from the pursuit, his admissions, and the blood test results. The outcome could lead to legal consequences for reckless driving, drug use, and operating a vehicle without a licence.
