Business leader warns tax hikes threaten jobs in Yakutia's struggling economy

YAKUTIA.INFO – Gavriil Parashin, a member of the Il Tumen parliament and a businessman with three decades of experience, recently criticized the current state of entrepreneurship in the region in an interview with the Neryungri-based portal Nerulife. He argues that existing conditions are not fostering growth but instead leading to mass job cuts and the decline of businesses themselves.

"There is no development whatsoever. I've been an entrepreneur for 30 years, so I understand this situation perfectly. Right now, we're seeing cuts—not just in numbers, but most importantly, in staff. I've already reduced my workforce by two-thirds. As for taxes—today, I met with business owners, and everyone is complaining. Of course, the new rates we approved haven't taken effect yet, and no one has paid under them, but last year already showed that taxes have skyrocketed. Unfortunately, they're driving individual entrepreneurs out of business," Parashin stated.

According to him, despite officials' public declarations of support, entrepreneurs in practice face mounting pressure. This issue hits hardest those who built successful businesses from the ground up.

"The entrepreneur who created their own business, built their own facilities, and provides jobs ends up paying more and more in taxes every year—property taxes, social contributions. In other words, they've done everything right, only to be pushed deeper into debt. That's just wrong," the lawmaker emphasized.
