Car Engulfed in Flames While Driving
Car erupts in flames on A46 highway during morning rush hour
A car burst into flames for reasons still under investigation while in motion. The driver managed to exit the vehicle in time and reach safety. Together with a first responder, he made initial attempts to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
Column of Smoke Guided Emergency Crews to the Scene
Even during their approach, emergency responders could clearly see the scale of the blaze. A thick, highly visible plume of smoke rose above the highway, making the location of the fire identifiable from a distance.
Vehicle Fully Ablaze Upon Arrival
By the time firefighters reached the scene, the car was already completely engulfed in flames. Crews immediately began firefighting operations and, using a foam nozzle while wearing breathing apparatus, quickly brought the fire under control.
Driver Suffers Shock
The driver was attended to by paramedics at the scene. Though he sustained no physical injuries, he was left in a state of shock following the incident.
Exemplary Emergency Corridor
Firefighters particularly commended the behavior of other road users. Even as emergency vehicles approached, drivers promptly formed a clear emergency corridor, allowing rescue crews to reach the scene without delay.
In addition to Solingen's professional fire department, Unit 7 of the Wald Volunteer Fire Brigade was also deployed.
Full Closure and Traffic Backlog
During firefighting and recovery operations, the A46 highway had to be temporarily closed in both directions. This led to significant traffic disruptions and lengthy congestion during the morning rush hour.
Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the fire or the extent of the property damage.
