CSU launches 2026 election campaign with grassroots focus in Zirndorf
High-Profile Backing for Christian Social Union in Fürth District: Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann Attends Zirndorf's New Year's Reception
At the traditional New Year's reception hosted by the CSU's Zirndorf branch, Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann took center stage. Just days later, he is set to appear at a public event with party colleagues in Oberasbach.
The packed hall of the Goldener Löwe inn was abuzz not only with state-level politics but, above all, with strategy for the March 2026 local elections. Alongside mayoral candidate Tom Hesselberger, the CSU's nominees for the town council presented themselves to the audience.
Herrmann used the platform to underscore the vital role of strong local roots in politically turbulent times. In his speech, he bridged Bavarian security policy with the challenges facing communities on the ground, emphasizing how indispensable volunteer engagement in local councils is to a functioning democracy. The event's recurring theme—captured by the slogan "Closer to the People" emblazoned on stage—highlighted the party's commitment to grassroots connection.
The evening's focus, however, was not just on the minister's visit but on the CSU's local lineup. Hesselberger took the opportunity to introduce his team for the town council—a blend of seasoned municipal politicians and fresh faces, united on stage.
Party members in the Fürth district won't have to wait long for Herrmann's next appearance. His schedule already includes a stop in the region on February 24, when he will head to Oberasbach's TSV Altenberg sports guesthouse. At the political Fischessen (fish dinner) under the banner "Region Connects," the minister will take the floor again at 5:30 p.m.
