Frankfurt S-Bahn chaos after major overhead line fault disrupts services
A major fault in the overhead power lines near Frankfurt has disrupted S-Bahn services across the Rhine-Main region. The problems started on Sunday and will last until at least Friday, affecting thousands of commuters daily. The disruption began when a short circuit sparked a fire in a Deutsche Bahn control cabinet. This damaged both the cabinet and the overhead lines near Camberger Brücke. As a result, the electronic signal box lost functionality, requiring a full rebuild of the control system.
The S2 line has been completely suspended due to the overhead line fault. Meanwhile, the S1, S8, and S9 lines face significant delays and cancellations. Repairs to the damaged infrastructure are ongoing, but full service is not expected to resume before Friday. Commuters relying on the S-Bahn network will need to plan for alternative transport until the end of the week. Deutsche Bahn has confirmed that both the control cabinet and overhead lines must be fully repaired before normal operations can resume.
