Dormagen’s eco-friendly Realschule Hackenbroich reaches topping-out milestone ahead of 2026 opening
Dormagen's Realschule Hackenbroich is taking shape. The city administration recently held a topping-out ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the new school building. The project, which began in 2021, is on track for completion in September 2026.
The new school, a modern four-story structure, will accommodate up to 816 students. It is being constructed using a modular system, with ALHO Systembau GmbH delivering the first modules in the summer of 2023. A total of 219 modules are being assembled and installed on-site.
The school's primary structure is predominantly wooden, reflecting a commitment to sustainable construction. Around 94 percent of the material used is wood, a testament to the city's focus on eco-friendly building practices.
The project, led by general contractor Köster GmbH, is Dormagen's largest school construction investment to date, with an estimated cost of around 45 million euros. The building covers a total area of 9,721 square meters, including 2,928 square meters of usable space and 8,348 square meters of floor area.
The topping-out ceremony signifies that the new Realschule Hackenbroich is well on its way to completion. Despite challenges in the construction sector, the project remains on schedule, set to welcome students at the start of the school year in 2026.
