Düren Students to Represent Germany at European Youth Parliament 2026
A team of students from Gymnasium am Wirteltor in Düren will represent Germany at the European Youth Parliament in Brno, Czech Republic. The event, scheduled for 2026, brings together young people from across Europe to debate key issues and draft resolutions. This year, no other German schools qualified for the international session.
The Düren team consists of four students and their supervising teacher, Elke Lyncker. She highlighted their dedication, balancing preparation for the event with their regular schoolwork. The group will tackle topics such as fisheries policy, the societal impact of war, and youth gambling during the session.
Before their departure, Mayor Frank Peter Ullrich welcomed the students at City Hall. He presented them with a donation for the school's parent-teacher association to help fund their trip. The team expressed enthusiasm about engaging with peers from other countries and working together on a shared resolution. The European Youth Parliament serves as a platform for political education and cross-border exchange. Participants collaborate on pressing issues while building international connections.
The Düren students are now preparing for their journey to Brno. Their discussions will focus on real-world challenges, with the aim of producing a formal resolution. The event marks their school's sole German representation at this year's international session.
