Eastern Germany's Top Innovators Win VORSPRUNG 2026 Business Prize
Two innovative companies from eastern Germany have won the prestigious VORSPRUNG 2026 business prize. PerioTrap Pharmaceuticals GmbH and SOLAR MATERIALS GmbH were honoured at a ceremony in Berlin. The award recognises their groundbreaking work in sustainability and healthcare. The ceremony took place at the Federal Ministry of Finance, hosted by Minister of State Elisabeth Kaiser. As Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, she highlighted the winners’ dedication and impact on the region’s economy.
PerioTrap Pharmaceuticals, based in Halle (Saale), focuses on microbiome-based solutions to combat gum disease. Their research aims to improve oral health through targeted bacterial therapies. SOLAR MATERIALS GmbH, headquartered in Magdeburg, specialises in recycling photovoltaic modules. The company also received the Start-Up Special Award for its contributions to renewable energy. Holger Lösch, Deputy Director General of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), praised both firms for their innovation and global competitiveness. Michael Richter, Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of Economics, congratulated PerioTrap and noted the state’s growing economic strength. The VORSPRUNG award celebrates businesses that demonstrate forward-thinking vision, sustainable growth, and outstanding innovation. The next East German Economic Forum (OWF) will be held from May 31 to June 2, 2026, in Bad Saarow.
The recognition of PerioTrap and SOLAR MATERIALS underscores eastern Germany’s role in cutting-edge industries. Their achievements in healthcare and sustainability set a benchmark for future innovation. The companies will be featured at the upcoming East German Economic Forum in 2026.
