Elderly woman's wallet stolen from walker in Lörrach supermarket theft
Brazen Theft While Shopping: Elderly Woman Falls Victim to Pickpocket in Lörrach
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at around 3:30 p.m., an 87-year-old woman had her wallet stolen from her handbag in a grocery store near Bahnhofsplatz. According to police, the bag was left unattended in a basket on her walker while she was paying for her purchases.
The thief apparently took advantage of the situation deliberately. Just minutes after the theft, cash was withdrawn from an ATM on Wallbrunnstraße using the stolen bank card, police reported.
The wallet contained not only cash but also the senior's ID documents and bank card. Authorities are once again warning the public about pickpocketing, particularly in supermarkets and other high-traffic areas.
Valuables should be kept close to the body, ideally in secure inner pockets, police advise. They also recommend storing PINs and bank cards separately and never leaving bags unattended.
If a theft occurs, victims should immediately block their cards and report the incident to police to prevent further misuse.
