Fugitive's icy slip leads to surprise arrest by German police
Ribnitz-Damgarten (OTS) — Yesterday afternoon (February 18, 2026), federal police officers on patrol in Ribnitz-Damgarten noticed a man who had slipped on the icy sidewalk along Richtenberger Straße.
After helping him to his feet, the officers questioned him and found that he appeared disoriented. It later emerged that there was an outstanding arrest warrant for the 35-year-old German national.
Since his conviction in 2024 by Stuttgart District Court, the man—originally from Baden-Württemberg—had been at large, failing to appear before the court as required. In early February 2026, the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor's Office issued a warrant for his arrest to enforce the sentence.
The officers executed the warrant on the spot, and he was subsequently taken directly into custody at a correctional facility.
