Glockenberg Tunnel to Close for Fire Safety Inspection on May 11
The Glockenberg Tunnel on Federal Highway B49 in Koblenz will close for four hours on the evening of Monday, May 11, 2026. The shutdown, scheduled from 8 p.m. to midnight, is required for a planned inspection of the tunnel’s fire alarm system. Drivers and bus passengers are advised to prepare for temporary route changes during this period. The Road Maintenance Authority has confirmed that the closure will allow experts to carry out a full check of the tunnel’s fire safety equipment. While the tunnel is shut, traffic will be redirected along clearly marked detours. Emergency services, however, will still have unrestricted access throughout the closure.
Public transport will also face adjustments. Bus lines 5 and N5, along with routes 6, 8, 9, 10, and night line N9, will follow alternative paths during the four-hour window. Authorities have urged all road users to comply with the temporary arrangements to avoid delays. Real-time updates on the closure will be available on the state’s Mobility Atlas website at verkehr.rlp.de. The platform will provide the latest information on traffic flow and any further changes to the schedule.
The inspection is part of routine maintenance to ensure the tunnel’s safety systems remain fully operational. Once completed, normal traffic and bus services will resume as usual. Drivers and commuters are encouraged to check the Mobility Atlas for live updates before travelling.
