Neglected pony rescued in Piedmont after severe health decline
A pony in severe distress was rescued in Nizza Monferrato, in the province of Asti, Piedmont. The animal suffered from a joint alteration in its right front leg, which had left it barely mobile and in declining health. Authorities intervened after receiving reports from the animal welfare association Enpa.
The pony was found in a neglected state, with its condition worsening due to untreated health issues. Despite prescribed treatments, the owner had failed to provide proper care for the animal’s recovery. The Carabinieri Forestali of Nizza Monferrato, alongside veterinarians from the local ASL, stepped in to seize the pony and transport it to the Universitary Veterinary Clinic of Grugliasco for urgent surgery.
The owner now faces legal consequences after being reported to the Judicial Authority for suspected animal cruelty. Meanwhile, Enpa has taken responsibility for the pony’s future, committing to find a suitable facility for its long-term rehabilitation.
The pony is now under veterinary care, with specialists working to address its mobility issues and overall health. Once stabilised, it will be placed in a rehabilitation centre selected by Enpa. The case highlights the importance of proper animal welfare and the consequences of neglect.
