Greek refugee camps face dire diaper shortage as aid group steps in
A local aid group is stepping in to address a critical shortage of diapers in refugee camps across northern Greece. With a partner organisation losing its funding, thousands of toddlers now face an urgent need for supplies. Frankenkonvoi, a long-standing charity, has launched an emergency appeal for help. Frankenkonvoi has worked in Greece since 2016, supporting displaced families through empowerment projects. The group now leads the Borderless Aid network, a coalition of NGOs ensuring continuous relief for refugees.
Refugee camps in the region require over 100,000 diapers each month for young children. The charity estimates the total monthly cost at around €20,000. To meet immediate demand, Frankenkonvoi has already committed €2,000 for the first batch of supplies. The organisation is calling for both cash donations and physical contributions. Those wishing to donate diapers can drop them off at the former Stern Pharmacy on Mathildenstraße 28 in Fürth. The collection point will be open every Saturday from 12:00 to 17:00.
The loss of funding for IHA’s diaper distributions has left a significant gap in support. Frankenkonvoi’s appeal aims to cover the shortfall, ensuring toddlers in northern Greece receive essential supplies. Without further contributions, the monthly shortfall of 113,400 diapers will remain unmet.
