Karlsruhe School Wins €30,000 Democracy Education Prize
The Ernst-Reuter-Community School in Karlsruhe has been awarded the Theme Prize for Democracy Education, a 30,000 euro prize. The school was recognised for its innovative approach to teaching democracy, which involves students in school events and discussions.
The school, with around 370 students and 40 teachers, fosters diversity and inclusion. Its democracy education programme combines responsibility, participation, and media competence. The Baden-Württemberg Minister for Culture, Youth, and Sports, Theresa Schopper, congratulated the students and teachers, emphasising the crucial role schools play in teaching democracy.
The Ernst-Reuter-Community School's win highlights the success of its active democracy education. Minister Schopper's recognition underscores the importance of such initiatives in shaping future generations' understanding of democracy.
