Lünen Unveils New Decentralized Refugee Shelter with Private Living Units
Open Day at Lünen's New Decentralized Refugee Shelter
The city administration invites all interested residents to an open day at the new decentralized refugee shelter at Am Diek 20/22 in Lünen-Wethmar on Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
After just over a year of construction, the residential building is now complete. Before the future residents move in, citizens have the opportunity to tour the facility and speak with representatives from the city administration.
On-site staff will provide information about the building, as well as the accommodation and support services for refugees in Lünen. The event also warmly welcomes those interested in volunteering or already actively involved in refugee assistance.
Providing Orientation and Stability
The shelter can accommodate up to 39 people. Each resident will have their own living unit of approximately 12 square meters, including a bathroom and cooking facilities. The goal of the accommodation is to offer residents orientation and stability during their initial phase after arrival. During this time, they will receive close support from social services.
In the long term, residents—provided they meet the necessary requirements—are expected to transition to independent housing after six to 24 months, taking further steps toward self-sufficient living.
