Construction of the Dalstroy Headquarters and Political Administration Building, erected by the Kolymagrazhdanstroy Contract Construction Authority, was completed on April 21, 1941. The project was designed by architect N.N. Yurgenson and structural engineer V.G. Drozdov. Work on this first major four-story building in Magadan began in 1938, as reported by our news agency.

The building later housed Severovostokzoloto, the country's largest gold mining enterprise, established by Order No. 29 of the USSR Ministry of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy in 1965. The organization succeeded the defunct Dalstroy trust, a sprawling industrial conglomerate.
