Mainz advances plan to expand traffic-calmed zones by May 6 vote
The proposal specifically concerns the following streets: Stefansberg, Stefansplatz, and Ölgasse. The justification states that Stefanstraße, Große Weißgasse, and Kleine Weißgasse have already been designated as traffic-calmed zones because they meet the necessary criteria, including the absence of sidewalks or only very narrow pedestrian paths.
Improved Road Safety
Since the three streets named in the proposal exhibit the same characteristics, the application argues that the traffic-calmed zone should be extended to include them. This measure is intended to enhance road safety and ensure consistent regulations across the neighborhood.
The proposal will be discussed by the Mobility Committee on Tuesday, April 21, followed by a review by the Mainz-Altstadt District Council a week later. The City Council will then vote on the measure on May 6. The cost of the new signs will be covered by the Road Traffic Authority's existing budget.
