Massive Climate Protest Camp to Unfold in Dortmund by Late May 2026
A major climate protest camp is set to take place in Dortmund from late May 2026. Organisers have planned a series of events, marches, and discussions on environmental issues between May 28 and May 31. Authorities are preparing for large-scale participation, with thousands expected to join the demonstrations across Germany and Europe. Preparations for the climate camp will begin on May 23, with the setup phase running until May 26. The site will then host a full programme of events from May 27 to May 30, including workshops, talks, and cultural activities. A key highlight will be a march on May 30, which organisers anticipate will draw several thousand people.
Dortmund Police have taken charge of security operations for the camp and all registered assemblies. They are working closely with organisers, Hamm Police, the city of Hamm, and other agencies to ensure safety. Utility providers have also been involved in the planning to safeguard critical infrastructure. Authorities have made clear that peaceful protest will be protected. However, police will step in if any disruptions or illegal actions occur, particularly those targeting essential services. The dismantling of the camp is scheduled for June 1 to June 4, marking the end of the event.
The climate camp will bring together activists, organisations, and members of the public for four days of discussion and action. With nationwide and Europe-wide calls for involvement, the event aims to highlight urgent environmental concerns. Police and organisers continue to coordinate closely to maintain order and support lawful participation.
