Münster’s districts elect new leaders in recent local votes

Recent elections have seen changes in leadership across various districts in Münster. Friedhelm Schade (SPD) has been elected as the new district mayor of Hiltrup, while Peter Bensmann (CDU) has retained his position as district mayor of Southeast. Meanwhile, Thomas Marquardt (SPD) has been elected chairman of the district council East.

The election for district mayors in the East and West districts took place on Thursday, November 6. However, the Central district council will hold its vote for a district mayor on Tuesday, November 11. In other recent elections, Ralf Kiewit (Green Party) was re-elected as district mayor of North. The district councils of Münster-Southeast, Münster-North, and Hiltrup elected their district mayors on Tuesday, November 4.

Schade's deputies are Astrid Bühl (CDU) and Dr. Hauke Helling (Green Party), while Bensmann's deputies are Sandra Beer (SPD) and Ruth Zeddies (Green Party). Marquardt's election was supported by deputy mayors Silke Busch (CDU), Margarete Weßeling (Green), and Kurt Moths (FDP). Kiewit's deputies are Marc Weßeling (CDU) and Sebastian Kappen (Volt).

These elections reflect the democratic process in Münster, with various parties represented in the district mayoral positions and their respective deputy roles. The newly elected officials will now take on their responsibilities, shaping the future of their respective districts.
