Wilhelmshaven rocked by violent assaults, crashes, and a stolen camper van
Wilhelmshaven saw a series of disturbing incidents over the weekend. A violent assault left a young man injured, while two separate car crashes resulted in serious harm. Police are also investigating the theft of a camper van linked to suspicious activity further north. On Friday evening, a 22-year-old was attacked by four men aged 20 to 26 on Neuengrodener Weg. The group used a baseball bat, beating the victim before knocking them to the ground. Cash and a mobile phone were stolen during the assault. Investigators suspect the attack may have followed an earlier dispute between those involved.
Earlier that day, a 54-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel. His vehicle flipped onto its roof, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred on Friday afternoon. In a separate incident on Friday morning, a 69-year-old driver with a blood alcohol level of 2.82 per mille lost control. His car struck a level crossing barrier, an electrical box, and a tree. Though uninjured, he now faces criminal proceedings. Meanwhile, a camper van was stolen from Am Wiesenhof street. The vehicle was later recovered between Bremen and Hamburg under suspicious circumstances.
The 22-year-old remains recovering after the violent attack, while the 54-year-old driver fights for their life in hospital. Police continue to investigate the stolen camper van and the circumstances of its recovery. Charges are expected against the intoxicated driver for the morning crash.
