Myanmar dismantles major illegal gambling and fraud network in Muse
Myanmar authorities have carried out a major crackdown on illegal online gambling and fraud operations. The raids targeted a large network in Muse township, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of hundreds of devices.
During coordinated raids in Muse, police arrested 85 Chinese nationals linked to the illegal operations. The crackdown uncovered a well-equipped network used for both local gambling and fraud schemes.
Authorities confiscated 286 mobile phones, 30 computers, 28 laptops, 46 additional mobile phones, and 18 gambling-related devices. The operation also seized other technical equipment supporting the illegal activities. This crackdown is part of Myanmar's broader campaign to tackle online fraud and illegal gambling, particularly in border regions. Officials have stressed that combating these crimes remains a government priority. Cooperation with regional and international partners continues to dismantle these networks and disrupt their infrastructure. Over the past two years, Myanmar has been identified as a key hub for transnational online gambling and fraud. No other countries or regions have emerged as major centres for these activities in recent searches.
The operation has weakened a significant illegal gambling and fraud network in Muse. With ongoing efforts and international collaboration, Myanmar aims to further dismantle these criminal operations. Authorities will continue targeting technical infrastructure and arresting those involved.
