Primorye Accepts Applications for International Contest "Heroes of Khasan on the Map of Multinational Russia"

The competition honors the memory of the 1938 Battle of Lake Khasan and the heroism of its participants. According to the regional government, the event is timed to coincide with Russia's Year of National Unity and is open to schoolchildren, students, teachers, local historians, and anyone interested in the history of the country and the Russian Far East.

The Primorye Ministry of Culture and Archives reports that the contest brings together archival research, investigative projects, and creative works focused on the 1938 Khasan clashes, the fates of those who fought, and the role of Russia's diverse ethnic groups in defending the nation's borders. Participants from across Russia, CIS countries, and the Asia-Pacific region may submit research, personal accounts, and other materials tied to this period.

Organizers note that entries can be individual, group, or family projects. Works will be accepted in multiple categories—ranging from traditional research and archival studies to essays, video reports, and artistic or multimedia projects. This format allows the contest to engage students, educators, search teams, museum staff, and local residents for whom Primorye's military history holds special significance.

A key emphasis is placed on materials covering the Battle of Lake Khasan, as well as the biographies of soldiers and commanders. The contest also highlights how the memory of these events is preserved in families, communities, and local traditions. Potential topics include studies of settlements in Khasan District, the work of search teams, military memorials, and historic sites linked to the 1938 conflict.

Applications and submissions will be accepted until May 26. A jury will then review the entries and select winners, with results announced in September. Authors of the best projects will take part in a program visiting key sites connected to the Khasan events.

Detailed participation rules, submission requirements, evaluation criteria, and a list of categories are available in the official contest regulations for "Heroes of Khasan on the Map of Multinational Russia". Applicants can register by completing an online form or by emailing [email protected].
